Why We Refined the Alice Dress Instead of Replacing It

There is a particular kind of feedback that only happens in person.

Not a review or a star rating, but the unguarded reaction of someone standing in front of a mirror holding something up and deciding in real time how she feels about it. It is the most honest data there is and it is the reason we show up to every pop-up event with a notebook.

With the Alice dress, the pattern was consistent. Someone would spot it on the rack, make that sound, you know the one, somewhere between a gasp and an "ooh," and then pause. "I love this, but I'd probably need shapewear." "It might show too much through the midsection." The silhouette was never the problem. The woman standing there knew exactly what she wanted. She just wanted the dress to meet her there.

So we listened and got to work to made it better.

We sent both versions to a customer during the development process, the original Alice and the new one, and asked her to try them both on and tell us honestly what she thought. She did not hesitate. The heavier weight EcoViscose knit gave her the coverage she was looking for without changing a single thing about the silhouette and shape she had loved from the beginning.

We will leave you with this: someone at one of our winter events mentioned wool vests for layering. We wrote that one down too. Stay tuned...

And if you see us at a pop-up, come and tell us what you think. We will be listening.
