Each September, I pause to write a “how’s the business going” letter letter to myself. What started as a way to mark our “official” business anniversary has become something more- a chance to slow down, reflect, and notice the journey. I take time to look back at what went well, what was hard, and what I’m looking forward to, then reread last year’s notes like a little time capsule. It’s always striking to see how much can change in just one year.
This year has been full and not without its challenges. There were delays and late nights, numbers that felt impossible, and moments when I wondered if I was moving fast enough.
But when I step back, I see growth. I see new designs brought to life (coming soon- stay tuned!). I see conversations with women who feel represented in our clothes, connections with other small business owners, and a community that continues to grow steadily and meaningfully.
This ritual reminds me to celebrate the small steps as much as the milestones: the kind emails, the first-time orders, the customers who come back because they feel at home in Birdie & Claire.
The biggest change this year has been some wonderful collaborators and new connections. I’m so grateful for the people who make this work possible- our amazing pattern maker, samplemaker, manufacturing and design partners, photographers, and friends who share their talent, patience, and support. This brand is not just mine, it is the result of many hands and minds working together.
So today, I’m really grateful. For the lessons, for the people, and for another year of Birdie & Claire. We are still here, still building, still moving forward. And that is worth celebrating.
