This summer, we found ourselves in Los Angeles, which meant one thing: a visit to the legendary Ragfinders of California, which has some of the best deadstock fabric.
What is deadstock? Deadstock fabric is leftover textile inventory that would otherwise go to waste, often from larger brands. Instead of being discarded, these fabrics get a new life—and are made available to small brands like ours at a fraction of the cost through places like Ragfinders. It allows us to create beautiful, unique pieces and make use of this surplus.
After years of hearing glowing reviews about Ragfinders, I finally got to explore it myself. Arriving at the warehouse, I was overwhelmed by the size of the space. There were multiple floors with rolls of fabric stacked practically floor to ceiling. With so many options, it felt like a textile paradise. I came in with a specific fabric need in mind, and it took all of my self-control not to walk out purchasing armfuls of fabric for future projects.
One of the challenges of working with deadstock is the unpredictability. You don't necessarily know what fabric you'll find or if you'll be able to find it again– making each piece from these materials even more special.
I left Ragfinders with beautiful silk that I can't wait to transform into a few limited-edition items. Stay tuned—exciting things coming soon!
